Strategy / Sustainability / Systems / Research

I design business systems built to last.

Siera Gunnett is a business strategist, entrepreneur, and researcher working across strategy, sustainability, systems, and emerging technology.

Early entrepreneurial work through Plannett Gunnett, start up business consulting, and current graduate study in Global Business & Sustainability form the throughline.

01 / What This Means

Built to last is the definition of sustainability here.

A sustainable business is not only environmentally responsible. It is a system capable of continuing to create value without undermining the people, resources, organizational structures, economic conditions, or natural systems it depends upon.

Management practices People Performance
Technology Workflows
Economic conditions Decisions Culture changes behavior

Business decisions rarely exist in isolation. Management practices can influence people. People influence performance. Technology changes workflows. Economic conditions influence decisions. Culture changes behavior.

The work is increasingly about identifying relationships, questioning assumptions, and understanding how different parts of a business system interact before designing around them.

02 / Ideas Behind the Work

Thinking through the system.

Published writing becomes part of the argument: consumer behavior, marketing, clothing, and daily decisions are treated as signals inside larger business systems.

Why Do You Wear What You Wear?

03 / Current Chapter

Currently in New York.

I'm currently in my graduate studies in Global Business & Sustainability at IE New York College and am expanding the work toward deeper research into understanding business systems through organizational behavior, ethics, sustainable business, changing systems of work, technology, AI, and quantitative analysis.

Academic research / SPSS

Rather than assume two conditions are related, ask the question.

Quantitative research and SPSS provide another way to test relationships that might otherwise remain assumptions. In one academic project, the question was whether higher GDP per capita is associated with longer life expectancy across countries after controls.

  • Dataset: 179 countries, with 150 complete cases in the final model
  • Method: multiple regression using IBM SPSS Statistics 29
  • Focus: GDP, public health spending, fertility, and undernourishment
  • Limit: one year of data, so findings are associations rather than proof of causality

The project found a strong association between income and life expectancy, while also showing why controls and limitations matter.

04 / Professional Journey

Building, advising, managing, investigating systems.

My work has moved through venture building, startup consulting, brand and business management, and research. Each chapter adds a different view of how business systems behave.

Plannett Gunnett

Founded and built as an entrepreneurial venture, Plannett Gunnett began with a retail and product focus centered around strong ethical and sustainable standards. This venture was scaled to a profitable business model that employed 10 professionals. This chapter revealed how sustainability depends on messaging, operations, process, resources, strategy, and the business model itself.

Business Consulting

Consulted 200+ entrepreneurs over the span of 2.5 years with the goal of helping move their ventures, at any stage, from idea to open doors. Startup business consulting exposed recurring questions across industries: how models work, where operations break down, what assumptions guide decisions, and which problems repeat across very different businesses.

05 / How the Work Happens

Seeing the system, not just the symptom.

Strategy, systems thinking, sustainability, observation, business development, process design, quantitative analysis, and experimentation all serve the same purpose: understand the relationships before designing the response.

06 / Ideas in Public

An evolving archive of questions.

My philosophy put into public media: Writing, video, research, and technical experiments become different ways of examining the same questions and making the thinking behind the work visible.
